Brandon Smith

Coordinator, Residence Life and Education

I manage all functions of the Residence Life & Education unit within the Department of Housing and Residence Life at Ryerson University. This includes supporting the live-in professional staff and Graduate Advisors working within our department, who also support our amazing student leaders working and living in residence.

I love true collaboration where we can build on an existing project, or develop something new. I try to connect my experiences as a first-generation undergraduate student at Trent University to my professional experiences at Mount Royal University (2008-10) and McMaster (2010-13) with the expertise and support I’ve found at Ryerson. I’m starting my M.Ed at OISE in the fall, which I am excited  for!

In my work in Student Affairs, I try to fill gaps, ask questions and integrate ‘thinking’ and ‘doing’ into better practice. This is also exactly what I hope this journey brings me, as well as new understanding of what people – whom I know and don’t know- bring to their practice.

People who know me call me ‘Brando’ and will attest that I’m an awful singer (and will sing!) but have mad cooking skills. I am a son, brother, friend and partner – I appreciate that I can bring these identities to work with me. Here is to our journey – for those in and outside of the RV!
